Jennie June Club has meeting

The Jennie June Club met on Oct. 8 at Perry Memorial Library. Frances Aston welcomed members and opened the meeting with prayer.An informative program was given by Tosha Allison with Toys for Tots. Toys for Tots began in 1989 in Perryton with Robert and JoAnn McCoy and Max and Kay Allison helping.

Commissioners hear NextEra presentation

The Ochiltree County Commissioners’ Court met on Monday morning at the Ochiltree County Courthouse.The commissioners heard a presentation by Conner Danahy of K.E. Andrews, a property tax firm from Dallas, on NextEra Energy’s Palo Duro Energy Storage Project.

Quilt guild presents 12 Quilts of Valor

The Friendship Quilt Guild presented quilts to 12 veterans at its annual Quilt of Valor ceremony Oct. 16 at Community Worship Center.The first six were highlighted in last week’s Herald, and this week the remaining six are in the spotlight.Willis Smith of Higgins, joined the U.S, Army in March 1968.

Weekend rains bring welcome moisture

Rains fell most of Saturday and a few more times during the week to provide Perryton and Ochiltree with some much-needed precipitation.KEYE Radio’s official rainfall total was .52 of an inch of rain.Elsewhere around the county, Mary Dudley, in the central part of Perryton, reported 1.

Hospital board learns of employee hospice donations

The Ochiltree County Hospital District Board of Directors met on Monday evening at the conference center at Ochiltree General Hospital.Among other items on the agenda, the board members learned that OGH employees had raised $8,640 for OGH Hospice Volunteers.

United Way is at 30%

The Ochiltree United Way’s 2026 campaign inched its way to the $98,000 goal this week. It is about 30% there, with $29,253 in contributions so far.One business, Panhandle First Bank, joined the 100% Companies list, meaning every employee contributed to United Way, bringing the total to eight.

Election early voting will end this Friday

There are just two days left to vote early in the election for Texas voters to decide the fate of 17 proposed amendments to the Texas Constitution.The election is slated for Tuesday, Nov. 4.Early voting will run through Oct. 31.

Kristin Johnson of Winsten Salem, NC is the next featured speaker in the Leadership Perryton series.She will be here on Thursday, Nov. 6. Her session, “Are You Available?” will be at Frank Phillips College Allen Campus in Perryton. Registration will begin at 6 p.m.
Halloween came a little early for kids attending Story Time at Perry Memorial Library on Wednesday morning. Kids got to dress up to show off their Halloween costumes before enjoying some snacks, crafts, and a good story. Story Time takes place every Wednesday from 10-11 a.m. at the library. The program, for kids from 2-4 years old, is free, but library staff request you call ahead and register so they know how many crafts they’ll need to make.
