PHS cross country runs well in Borger

The PHS cross country teams ran in the Borger Invitational Meet on Saturday. It was the first regular meet of the season for both the Rangers and Rangerettes. It was a very good first outing as the Rangers took first and the Rettes ran second.

The Rangers will host the Caprock Longhorns this Friday night for homecoming. Game time is 7 p.m. Caprock is 0-2 on its young season so far. They opened the season with a 13-7 loss to Hereford, and last weekend were beaten by Randall 27-13.

Campbell wins fourth gold in Tokyo

Perryton native Jeremy Campbell won his fourth Paralympic gold medal on Thursday, Sept. 2, placing first in the F64 discus throw at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games. Campbell easily placed first with a best throw of 60.22 meters. Ivan Katanusic (Croatia) placed second with a throw of 55.

Bobcats top Perryton, 29-7

Though the score seemed lopsided, 29-7, Childress, the Rangers played tough and the game was better than the score indicated. The Bobcats dominated the first half of the game, scoring 22 unanswered points before Perryton scored about a minute before the first half ended.

PHS cross country is off and running

The cross country season is upon us and the Rangers are a pre-season favorite. The Rangers are ranked number one in the state 4A pre-season rankings. A successful run at last year’s state meet, along with several returning runners places Perryton as the pre-season team to beat.

The Rangerette volleyball team traveled to play in the Wildorado Invitational Tournament last week. The competition was strong and the Rettes were able to complete several matches in preparation for a tough district schedule. Perryton opened play on Thursday against Ascension Academy.

The Rangers will hit the road again this Friday to play the Childress Bobcats. Game time is 7 p.m. The Bobcats are 1-0 on the season, pummeling Panhandle 68-27 in their season opener. Childress is picked to finish second in District 3-31, DII, behind last year’s state champion, Canadian.

Rettes continue busy season

The Rangerette volleyball team continues to rack up games in the early pre-district season. They traveled to play in the River Road Tournament last weekend where they were able to play 8 matches. After the first day of matches, the teams were divided into Gold, Silver and Ivory Brackets.

The Rangerette volleyball team kicked off its 2021 season under the direction of a new head coach. Coach Jan Reed takes the reins of the program this season and is assisted by coaches Tabatha O’Dell and Kami Appelhans. Perryton’s varsity roster holds seven seniors and six juniors.
