The Perryton Ranger basketball team ran into a tough Hooker Bulldog team on the road Friday afternoon. The Bulldogs shot very well, dominated the first half and won by answering second half rallies by the Rangers. Hooker took the game by the final score of 71-51.
Hooker led by the score of 14-10 at the end of the first quarter, despite 5 points by Daxton Rigdon. Cuyler Feger and Levi Stevens each converted a shot inside the arc while Tad Pshigoda knocked down a free throw to round out Perryton’s scoring.
Points were very difficult for the Rangers to obtain in the second quarter. They struggled by going 1 of 6 from the line. Pshigoda and Stevens each scored 2 points and Pablo Perez hit a free throw for Perryton, 5 points in the period. Hooker extended their lead to 35-15 by scoring 21 points in the frame.
The two teams traded buckets in the second half. Peryton scored 18 points in each of the third and fourth quarters. Hooker matched with 17 points in the third and 19 points in the fourth quarter. Feger and Stevens each scored 5 points in the third while Rigdon was close behind with 4 points. Perez and Kade Gilbert each tossed in 2 points inside the arc in the period.
Perez led the Rangers in the fourth quarter with 7 points. Stevens remained hot with 6 more points. Eddie Munos scored 3 points while Jesus Cervantes went 2 of 2 from the line in the final stanza.
Stevens led the Rangers with 15 points in the loss. Perez finished strong with 10 points. Rigdon hit his season average of 9 points. Feger scored 7 points in the game. Munos and Perez each scored 3 points while Cervantes and Gilbert rounded out the scoring for Perryton with 2 points each.
The Rangers converted 18 buckets inside the arc and 3 buckets from beyond the three-point line in the game. They went 6 of 13 for 46% from the free throw line. The Rangers are averaging 48% from the line on the early season.
The loss brings the Rangers’ season record to 3-3.
