Freda Mae Stafford, 81, of Perryton, died Nov. 16, 2020.

No services are scheduled at this time. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home in Perryton.

She was born Sept. 14, 1939 in Scott City, KS. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Blanche (Horchem) Rufenacht; her husband, Carl Stafford, in 2014; one sister, Ila Ivey Thearl; and one brother, Vern Rufenacht.

She is survived by one daughter, Brenda Poston of Pampa; three sons, Murl Stafford of Hudson, KS, Jerald Stafford of Perryton and Phillip Stafford of Tulsa, OK; one brother, George Rufenacht of Scott City, KS; one sister, Urla Hopkins of Garden City, KS; and six grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to Ochiltree General Hospital Hospice Volunteers, 31010 Garrett Drive, Perryton.

Hat Hoax

The wide-brimmed black buckle-topped hat we associate with the Pilgrims was entirely fictional. The Pilgrims never wore them, and no hat with that design ever existed as a serious piece of apparel.
