Rites set for Weist

James Edward “Pete” Weist, 70, of Darrouzett died Sept. 11, 2021 in Perryton.

Funeral and burial services will be held Saturday, Sept. 18, at 11 a.m. at Darrouzett Cemetery with Bishop Michael Girlinghouse officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home in Perryton. Services will be broadcast live on the Boxwell Brothers Facebook page.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 17, at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home in Booker.

He was born Oct. 31, 1950 in Forest Lake, MN. He graduated from Hill High School, Maplewood, MN, the University of Minnesota and Luther Seminary. He married Carol Ann Field on Sept. 9, 1973 in Minneapolis.

He served as lay pastor for Lutheran congregations in North Dakota, and Bethel Lutheran Church in Avoca.and was active in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Darrouzett.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James B. and Marie Weist; and two brothers, Michael Weist and Frank West.

He is survived by his wife, Carol, of Darrouzett; one daughter, Ruth Earsley of Tyler; siblings Mary Blood of Elk River, MN, Barbara Blood of North St. Paul, MN, John Weist of Forest Lake, MN, Marie Irwin of Fort Walton Beach, FL and Ann Sawatzky of Bloomington, MN; and three grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 327, Darrouzett TX 79024; or the Panhandle Crisis Center, P.O. Box 502, Perryton.
