LOBO REOPENS AT LAKE FRYER

The Lobo Trading Post, the popular county-run restaurant at Wolf Creek Park, has officially re-opened with a new concessionaire. The restaurant is open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesdays through Mondays.

Ochiltree General Hospital will host one final opportunity for second-dose COVID-19 vaccinations to be held via pre-scheduled appointment at a soon to-be-determined date and location.

Sales tax holiday for emergency supplies is set for April 24-26

With the potential for severe weather approaching, Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar reminds Texans they can purchase certain items tax-free during the state’s sales tax holiday for emergency preparation supplies, which begins at 12:01 a.m.

Drought conditions blanket two thirds of state

While drought conditions have improved in the northern Panhandle, they have gotten more severe in South and East Texas, with 68% of the state’s land now under drought conditions ranging from abnormally dry to exceptional.

Mantooth rites held

Mary John Mantooth, 79, of Perryton, died April 9, 2021. Services were held Tuesday, April 13, at Key Heights Baptist Church with Rev. Duce Cooper officiating. Burial followed in Ochiltree Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home.

April designated Distracted Driving Awareness Month

Distracted driving is still near the top of the list when it comes to crashes on Texas roadways, coming in at No. 2 for traffic-related crash causes. Last year Texas roadways saw nearly 1 in 5 crashes caused by a distracted driver in which 364 people died and 2,200 were seriously injured.

COVID-19 cases rise, deaths drop

The number of new COVID-19 cases in Texas rose to 24,333 last week, up more than 2,500 from the previous week, according to the Johns Hopkins Corona-virus Resource Center. The number of deaths decreased to 512, down nearly 20% from the previous week.

Another scam investigated

Another scam, vandalism and missing license plates topped police activity for the week. A woman called police after falling victim to a scam at her place of employment.
