ERCOT announces new interim CEO

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas has picked Brad Jones to be interim CEO for the Texas grid operator. Jones has more than 30 years of industry experience, including two stints with ERCOT.

Intruder, damage are reported

An intruder and vandalism were the main crimes investigated during the week. Maryann Martinez, 3108 S. Birch, called police after seeing someone run out the back door of her house as she arrived home. Upon inspection, nothing appeared to be missing.

Despite less traffic on the road in 2020 and a 2% reduction in motorcycle crashes, safety officials are alarmed by a 17% increase in Texas motorcycle fatalities compared to 2019. On average, a motorcyclist is killed in a crash on Texas roads every day.

PISD board election has light turn out

Very few voters turned out for the May 1 general election to decide three Perryton School Board seats. The two incumbents, Tyler Merkel and Wes Beal were re-elected, and the third winner, Chris Lingo, will begin his first term later this month. Beal led the voting tally with 248.

Anchondo pastel named Best of Show in Spring Art Show

The Perryton High School Spring Art Show is currently on display in the El Rancho area of PHS through May 17. This year’s purchase prize winner was Yoselin Anchondo, for her selfportrait pastel drawing.

PARSPA scholarship available

The Perryton Area Retired School Personnel Association (PARSPA) has a scholarship available for any junior or senior in college or post graduate majoring in education and planning to become a teacher. Applications are available now, and the deadline to submit an application is June 30.

Museum to host barn quilt painting event

The Museum of the Plains is hosting a barn quilt painting event on Saturday, May 8, from 10 a.m-4 p.m. The cost is $20 per person and lunch will be provided, including all painting materials and a 1x1’ board, as well as instruction.
