HAIL AND BRIEF TORNADOES REPORTED

Minimal damage was sustained as a result of the severe storm system that moved through Ochiltree County on Wednesday, with some residents receiving torrential rainfall and pea-to golf ball sized hail and property damage from a very weak tornado.

PISD board hires six staff members

The Perryton School Board met in a special session last Tuesday at noon, hiring several more personnel for the 2021-22 school year. Sandi Wheeler was hired as the new Perryton Junior High principal, replacing Tiffany Bietz, who resigned. She has been principal at Spearman High School.

Active COVID-19 cases drop to zero

There are now no active COVID-19 cases in Ochiltree County. The first cases of COVID-19 began appearing in the county in late April of last year.

2021 SUMMER LIFEGUARDS

The Perryton Municipal Water Park has now opened for the summer. The regular hours for the water park are Monday through Saturday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. On Sundays, the pool is open from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. The park will stay open this summer until July 31.

Farmers Market to open in June

The Ochiltree County Farmers Market will begin on Saturday, June 12, in the parking lot at Perryton National Bank. If you would like to be a participant in this year’s market, please contact Rene Schwalk at 806-202-0049. The market is open to any handmade, homemade, or home grown items.

Lions Club golf tourney set

The Perryton Lions Club will hold its “Yellow Ball” Golf Tournament on Saturday, June 5, at the city golf course. The tourney begins with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Entry fee is $50 per player for the three player team (two player scramble, one player stroke play.

Library to offer sumer reading club

Perry Memorial Library is sponsoring the 2021 Texas Reading Club this summer. The theme of the club is “Tails and Tales,” and the library will offer many activities to help make reading fun for kids. The programs will begin on June 7 and end June 30.

PARSPA scholarship available

The Perryton Area Retired School Personnel Association (PARSPA) has a scholarship available for any junior or senior in college or post graduate majoring in education and planning to become a teacher. Applications are available now, and the deadline to submit an application is June 30.
