Some educator expenses may be tax deductible

The educator expense deduction allows eligible teachers and administrators to deduct part of the cost of technology, supplies and training from their taxes. They can only claim this deduction for expenses that were not reimbursed by their employer, a grant or other source.

City council approves new school zone

The Perryton City council officially approved a new traffic school zone by Perryton Kinder and Perryton Junior High, and continued review of the proposed 2021-22 budget at its meeting Tuesday evening. The new school zone incorporates the various other school zone ordinances in the city into one.

After a month of no active COVID-19 cases, Ochiltree County’s reprieve is unfortunately over. According to data from the Texas Department of State Health Services, Ochiltree County’s estimated active cases of COVID-19 stands at two, up from none over the past 30 days.

OGH updates facility’s COVID-19 visitation policy

Ochiltree General Hospital has altered their visitation policy due to concerns about a possible sudden rise in COVID-19 and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) cases. Patients who are COVID-negative will be allowed one designated visitor.
BATTLING THE BLOODY BUGS With summer in full swing and mosquitoes making their return to the area, the City of Perryton is busy taking care of several methods to reduce the numbers of adult mosquitoes and their larva, including spraying pesticide during the week, placing nontoxic pellets in areas of standing water, and working to eliminate standing water wherever possible. Summer is in full swing, and that means it’s prime mosquito season again. All it takes is a little moisture in a container to grow mosquitoes. So the City of Perryton is asking all residents for their assistance in the control of these irritating and disease-carrying pests.

Crime Stoppers golf tourney set

The 28th Annual Crime Stoppers Golf Tournament is set for Saturday, July 24, with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Entry fee is $50 per player for the 18 holes, two person scramble. A $500 cash prize will be awarded for closest to the pin on no. 11, and mulligans will be available for $10.

NEPTFCU holding school supply drive

The Northeast Panhandle Teacher Federal Credit Union, 211 S. Amherst, is accepting donations for basic school essentials to contribute to students and teachers purchasing supplies this year. Donations will be accepted though Aug. 3, then will be distributed to Perryton schools.

PAC sign up for fall sports underway

The Perryton Activity Center is currently signing up youth for football, volleyball and soccer. Youth football begins Sept. 4. Divisions are flag football, grades 1-2 (no pads); junior football, grades 3-4; and senior football, grades 5-6. Cost is $35 for PAC members and $65 for nonmembers.
