Ellis leaves for pro camp

(Reprinted from the Ochiltree County Herald, July 20, 1939). Drew Ellis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Ellis and a former TCU football star, left Wednesday for Philadelphia to join the training camp of the Philadelphia Eagles of the national Football League.

(Reprinted from the Herald, February 1, 1940). Shades of Alaska! For the first time in the history of Texas a plane has been observed taking off on a pair of skies at Perryton across the snow bound prairie to wrangle a herd of marooned cattle and give them daily feed.

1939 OLD TIMERS– During Perryton’s Birthday Celebration in 1939, the Old Timers gathered to remember the beginnings of the city.

Over two hundred register at Old-Timers meet Tuesday

(Reprinted from the Herald, Aug. 24, 1939) Two hundred fifteen registered at the Old Timers’ Reunion held at the Legion Hall during the Golden Jubilee Celebration in Perryton August 22. Of this number 73 were pioneers who arrived in the panhandle at least fifty years ago.

Wheatheart Celebration activities continues throughout coming week

Ochiltree County’s annual Wheatheart of the Nation Celebration’s spotlight events, including the Block Party, the parade, and Pioneer Day, are scheduled for the coming week. The first event scheduled for next week is the Senior Village Church Service, set for Wednesday, Aug. 18, at 6 p.m.

United Way sets $92,000 goal

The Ochiltree United Way board met last week and set the campaign goal and allocations for 2022. The goal this year is $92,000, which was allocated among 11 agencies. The campaign chairman this year is Jennie Itara, with the theme, “Give Today...Change Tomorrow.

PISD to offer free meals

The Perryton ISD will have a nice change for school meals this coming school year. The district will offer healthy meals to all students at no cost. “Grab and go” meals will also be available again, distributed at the administration building parking lot.
