Rotary Club to host annual cherry pie contest

The Perryton Rotary Club will host the annual Cherry Pie Contest and Sale on Saturday, Feb. 19. The event, which is the club’s largest fundraiser, is an open competition to find the best cherry pie bakers in town.

The Perryton Fire Department held a recruiting event on Monday evening to seek new volunteers for the department. Perryton Fire Chief Paul Dutcher said the fire department had some vacancies, and was always looking to add new volunteer firefighters.

Williams Intermediate held its annual spelling bee on Friday afternoon as 36 fourth and fifth graders competed to see who was the best speller. Taking first place was Avery Castanon, front, with Jacey Hinshaw, top left, in second, and Adrian Vazquez in third place.

Another new COVID-19 death reported in county

One new fatality from the COVID-19 virus has been reported this week in Ochiltree County, bringing the county’s total to 43 deaths. According to data from the Texas Department of State Health Services, the newest fatality occurred around the date of Jan. 24.

Senior Center sets Valentines dinner The Ochiltree County Senior Citizens Association will hold their Valentines Steak Dinner on Monday, Feb. 14, at 6 p.m. at the Senior Citizens Center. The menu will consist of a 10-oz. New York strip steak, baked potato, and salad.
