City’s sales tax payment shows 17.5% decrease

The City of Perryton’s sales tax payment for October saw a significant drop for the month.The city received $252,248, which is 17.5% less than last October. For the year, however, the news is a little better. Its payments to date of $2.52 million are down just 2.4%.

Ochiltree County 4-H presented its annual awards celebration at the Expo Center on Monday, Oct. 14.Kyle Oquin presented the Junior and Senior Leadership Awards, which require a completed record book and are based on student leadership in 4-H.The Junior Leadership Award was presented to Clay Oquin.

Summer Jelinik of the Dallas area was the latest speaker in the Leadership Perryton series. She spoke on “Unlocking the Magic of Leadership” at Frank Phillips College, Allen Campus on Thursday evening. The seminar was sponsored by FirstBank Southwest and Red’s Pharmacy.

Parkinson’s support group to meetThe Perryton Area Parkinson’s Disease Support Group will meet on Friday, Oct. 11 for a provided lunch and meeting starting at 12 noon, at New Hope Fellowship, 2821 S.Ash. Laura Peña will give the program on the benefits of massage.

Shorter days bring higher risks for pedestrians

The change in seasons brings fewer daylight hours and higher risks for pedestrian safety, according to the Texas Department of Transportation. Last October was the deadliest month for pedestrians, with 80 dying in Texas traffic crashes.

Alamo Club learns about parliamentary procedure

The Ochiltree County 4H Alamo Club met Oct. 1 at the Expo Center.The program was given by president Rylan Oquin on how to conduct proper parliamentary procedure. They also made a bowl of trail mix to show how the procedure is properly done.Rylan Oquin also conducted the business meeting.

Staggs, Felix named Students of the Month

The Perryton Rotary Club has named Adlee Felix and Dane Staggs as the October Students of the Month.Felix is the daughter of Dent and Brandy Felix. She has one brother, Conley.
Local students in fourth, fifth, and sixth grades visited the Museum of the Plains on Wednesday to learn about monarch butterflies. In addition to information about butterfly biology, migration, and tourism, students also made butterfly origami, went on a plant scavenger hunt, and watched videos about monarch butterflies. United Way drive off to great start

The Ochiltree United Way’s 2025 fund drive is off to a great start, already raising 19% of its $96,000 goal.As of Monday, the campaign has raised $17,927, with every division reporting contributions.In addition, there are eight 100% Companies, meaning every employee also contributed to United Way.
