Art competitions were a part of the Olympic Games from 1912 to 1948. These competitions were part of the original plan for the games by the Olympic Movement’s founder, Charles Pierre de Frédy, Baron de Coubertin. Medals were awarded for works of art inspired by sport and were divided into categories for architecture, literature, music, painting, and sculpture.
