The ancient Greek artist Lysippos was the only sculptor to depict Alexander the Great during Alexander’s lifetime. Lysippos was a prolifi c sculptor, much admired and much imitated, and Alexander was so pleased with the sculptor’s work that he insisted no other artist was skilled enough to represent him.
