The Jennie June Club met Nov. 11 t Perry Memorial Library. Hostesses were Roberta Christian, Sheila Harris and Barbara Johnson.
The program was given by Jason Vanosdol on the Jireh Outreach. He has overseen the project, located at 205 S. Colgate, since 2019.
He said Community Worship Center’s goal has been to make Jireh a community project. He is an associate pastor at CWC, working with missions and outreach, as well as a certified EMT, volunteer firefighter, and Karter’s Dream co-founder.
Jireh helped 3,136 families in 2019, and 8,695 families in 2020. The project distributed 110,000 pounds of food in 2019 and 180,000 pounds in 2020. They served over 23,000 people in the area in 2020. Since 2005, the ministry has given away 1.4 million pounds of food.
The High Plains Food Bank helps provide food, United Supermarket donates its surplus food, and Walls and Perryton Furniture have donated used furniture.
The ministry has around 170-190 volunteers who show up weekly , and food boxes are distributed on Thursdays from 4-6 p.m. and on the second Wednesday of the month from 3-5 p.m. for senior food boxes.
The Amarillo Area Foundation awarded Jireh a $10,000 grant to pay for a new walk-in freezer, and Community Worship Center pays for the utilities.
Jireh welcomes monetary gifts in any amount, and it all goes for food. Members also brought canned goods to be donated to Jireh.
The business meeting was conducted by president Kara Malaney, who led in the reading of the collect. Her quote for November was, “Love is not self-seeking, and serve others.”
She also welcomed new members Frances Aston, Kelly Barrett, Linda Kile and Mary Carman.
The social committee reported that the club will be going to a movie at the Ellis Theatre in February, with more details at a later date.
Penny Clark, second vice president and program and yearbook chairman. She said the next meeting will be Dec. 5 at 11:30 a.m. at the Senior Citizen Center. Hostesses will be Clark, Jo Humphrey and Patsy Unruh.
Corresponding secretary Carolyn Thomas announced birthdays for November. They are Kaye Neufeld, Nov. 14, and Betty Penner, Nov. 26. She also sent a thank you card to Ruth Romero and was sending a sympathy card to Janelle and Harold Cochran.
Phillis Oquin, project chairman, gave the final total for the Book Fair. Sales at the library were $1,266.50. Members also brought gifts that will be given to The Seasons for bingo prizes.
