The Jennie June Club met Sept. 9 at the Senior Citizen Center for a noon luncheon. Hostesses were Carol McGarraugh, Penny Clark and Jo Humphrey.
Clark, president, called the meeting to order and led the group in reading the collect.
She said the word for the year would be “zeal,” defined as great energy or enthusiasm in pursuit of a cause or an objective.
In the absence of first vice president Darless Bishop, Clark said the Oct. 14 meeting will be a tour of the new Ochiltree County Law Enforcement Center. Members will meet at the community room at the center and wear masks. Hostesses will be Donna Mann and Renee Lee.
Ruth Roberson reported that the project would be filling boxes for Operation Christmas Child, sponsored by Samaritan’s Purse. She brought boxes for members to take, along with a list of items needed to fill the boxes, labels and a letter from the club to put in the boxes. The filled boxes are to be returned to Roberson at the October meeting.
Carol McGarraugh, second vice president, told members the pages for the yearbook were ready.
Arlene Boxwell, treasurer and project chairman, told the group the Book Fair at Perry Memorial Library will start Sept. 28, and members needed to be at the library at 9:30 a.m. She also said the newsletters at the Panhandle Crisis Center would be ready to fold in the middle of October.
Corresponding secretary Carolyn Thomas announced members with September birthdays: Roberson, Sept. 7; Bishop and Humphrey, Sept. 9; Sheila Harris, Sept. 14; and Kris Erickson, Sept. 27.
The club approved the 2020-21 budget, as well as a recommendation from the executive board to give donations to Snack Pak 4 Kids and the Mutt Hutt.
The committee of Phillis Oquin, Roberta Christian and Clark will have details for the 50th year celebration of the Book Fair at a later date.
Clark also told the group that approval had been given previously to buy a brick saying “Jennie Junes” to honor the Hank the Cowdog statue at the Museum of the Plains, and to make a contribution to the building fund at Ochiltree General Hospital.
