Rangerettes defeated in district opener

The Rangerette volleyball team faced a long-time foe to open the 2020 district season. The Rettes loaded the bus and headed to Borger to challenge the Borger Lady Bulldogs. Going into the game, even odds were placed on each team to win in the competitive district race.

Borger attacked strongly at the net and capitalized on every Rangerette mistake to secure the match victory in three sets on Tuesday. The Lady Bulldogs studied film and developed a strong game plan. Set scores were 25-15, 25-20 and 25-20.

Perryton struggled to generate offense, as they only served two aces and totaled just 18 kills in the three sets. Gisselle Hernandez opened district play as an inside favorite to make the all-district team and played well. She had the two aces, 8 kills and 9 digs in the loss.

The Rettes scored 30 service rotation points with 9 service errors. They committed 12 service return errors in the match. Kills were limited for the Rettes and included Hernandez (8), Giovanna Macias (3), Halley Farney (2), Johanna Perez (2), Yancey Judice (1), Leslye Ramirez (1) and Kaeden Wilson (1). The Rettes struggled with 24 attack errors in the loss.

Perryton had 18 assists in the match. Assist totals included Wilson (8), Hannah Irvin (5), Tanya Navarrete (2), Farney (1), Jocelyn Medina (1) and Perez (1).

Dig totals were numerous against the Lady Bulldog power hitting offense. Navarrete led the Rettes with 17. Hernandez posted 9 digs while Farney totaled 8. Other totals included Median (7), Perez (4), Wilson (4), Macias (2), Judice (1) and L. Ramirez (1). Perryton sent 21 free balls back over the net in the loss which set up Borger’s offense.

Judice recorded Perryton’s only solo block in the match. Block assists were made by Perez (2), Farney (1) and Macias (1).

The loss brings the Rangerettes’ season record to 4-9 and their district record to 0-1.
