Troy Hoover

Troy “Grampa” Hoover of Elmwood, Oklahoma, died peacefully at his home on September 29, 2020, at the age of 72.

Troy was born on May 26, 1948 in Perryton, to Leon and Grace Hoover. He graduated from Beaver High School in 1966. He attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry in 1970. After graduating from college, he began farming in Beaver County.

Troy had been the chief at Elmwood Fire Department since 1990. He was a member of the Beaver School Board for seven years. He worked for Phillips Petroleum, later becoming DCP, for over 31 years. He earned an award for working over 25 years without ever calling in sick.

In 2002, he married the best thing that happened to him, which was Leslie. Troy and Leslie have three daughters, Tana “Pete” Hoover, Whitney Holmes, and Courtney Arellano. His pride and joy was his grandkids. He loved chasing them in football, soccer, basketball, baseball, stock shows, and all the school activities. He would always be there proudly cheering them on.

He loved his cattle, farming, and ranching. He never had boys until the girls got married, and he finally got “his” boys. You would always hear him say he was a Genius to the boys. There was never a question he did not know the answer to, even if he had to make it up. He loved to hunt and do anything with the grandkids. He loved his famous “cowdog”, his toy poodle, Boomer.

He is survived by the love of his life, Leslie Hoover of the home; three daughters, Tana “Pete” Hoover and spouse Monica of McKinney, Whitney Holmes and spouse Stephen of Perryton and Courtney Arellano and spouse Manuel of Perryton; his grandkids: Isaac, Mia, Evelyn, Emma, Tatum, Canon, and Kroy; two brothers, Earle Hoover and wife Marquita of Elmwood, OK, and Johnnie Hoover and wife Mary of Forgan, OK; four sisters, Noreen Lenz of Enid, OK, Rose Marie Meyer and husband Glendell of Booker, Mary Ann Earls and husband Charles of Guymon, OK, and Lousie Lee and husband Gerry (Gary) of Enid, OK; a sister-in-law, Sue Hoover of Booker, and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Grace Hoover, and his brother, Jerry Hoover.

A funeral is scheduled for Friday, October 2, 2020, at 10 a.m. at the Balko Baptist Church. Todd Carr and David Glassock will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Troy’s life.
