Tregellas dies Sept. 22

Ronald Ralph “Rusty” Tregellas, 75, died Sept. 22, 2026 in Amarillo.

He was born March 12, 1951 in Amarillo, and married Donnita Faye Henricks on June 23, 1995 in Weatherford.

He graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in animal science, and was a member of AGR fraternity.

He was a racehorse trainer, and made history as the first trainer to win the First Thoroughbred twoyear- old race at each race track in Texas. He also worked for 25 years as a veterinary assistant at Prairie Meadows with Equine Associates. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and First Methodist Church in Perryton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Pat Tregellas; and his grandparents.

He is survived by his wife, Donnita; two daughters, Rochelle Fouts of Amarillo and Sharalyn Mayden of Childress; three sons, Sheldon Laverty of Laverne, OK, Shannon Laverty of Chickasha, OK and Shaddon Laverty of Shattuck, OK; one brother, Rocky Tregellas; 14 grandchildren; and one greatgrandchild.

The family requests memorials to Hank the Cowdog, Shriners Hospital for Children or the Masonic Lodge.
