On Tuesday, July 25, 2023, Sheila Kay (Wylie) Harris left this earth to reunite with family and friends who have gone before her.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 28, 2023 at Key Heights Baptist Church in Perryton, officiated by Rev. Duce Cooper. Burial will follow in Gray Cemetery, Gray, OK.
She was born on Sept. 14, 1945, in Hollis, OK to Joe and Letha Wylie. For most of the rest of her life, she lived in or near Perryton. This town was truly as much a part of her as she was of it.
She graduated from Perryton High School in 1963 and married Jay Lynn Harris of Balko, OK at the First Baptist Church of Perryton in September of 1964. Although school and Jay’s job often had them leaving town for something new, they always ended up returning to Perryton.
She and Jay had four children, Toni Harris Holland, Michelle Johnson, Michael Harris, and Niki Castellow. During the time she spent in Perryton, she worked at various places in town, most notably, FirstBank Southwest.
After her retirement, she continued to work as a secretary of Key Heights Baptist Church, the director of the Museum of the Plains, director and board member of Ochiltree County Senior Citizens Center, and full time “Tata” (grandma) of her eleven grandchildren.
Sheila leaves behind Pam (sister) and Pete Vasquez of Garland, Joe (brother) Wylie Jr. of Cozad, NE, Toni (daughter) and Russell Holland of Diana, Michelle (daughter) and Kyle Johnson of Lubbock, Michael (son) and Jami Harris of Balk, OK, and Niki (daughter) Castellow of Little Elm, also her grandchildren: Coy, Cody, and Cooper Holland; Jordyn, Joshua, and Jocelyn Johnson; John Robert and Jaylin Harris; Tessa, Kaylee, and Michael Jay Castellow; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She loved them all.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Museum of the Plains, 1200 N. Main, Perryton, TX, 79070; and to the Ministries and Missions of Key Heights Baptist Church, P.O. Box 923, Perryton, TX 79070 If you are unable to send donations at this time, the family suggests you go home, hug your loved ones and strike up a game of cards. It was one of her all time favorite things to do.
