Mervin La Roe “Merv” Gordon, 89, of Yukon, OK, formerly of Perryton, died April 9, 2021.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 15, at OKC Faith Church in Oklahoma City, OK . Burial will be at a later date at Fort Sill National Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction ofCorbett Funeral and Cremation Service.
He was born Aug. 4, 1931 in Turpin, OK, and graduated from Liberal (KS) High School in 1949. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War before he was honorably discharged in 1953. He returned to Liberal and served in the Army Reserves for eight years.
He married Maxine Janzen April 30, 1955 in Liberal, and moved to Perryton. A licensed barber, he forst worked at Glen Dye’s Barber Shop before opening Merv’s Barber Shop from 1957-90, when he moved to Cedaredge, CO. There he operated Klassic Klippers. He later moved to Calera, OK and Kingfisher, OK before moving to Yukon in 2013. He retired in 2011. He was a member of OKC Faith Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine; two sons, Dennis Gordon and Gary Gordon; his parents, James Henry and Lila Irene Gordon; one granddaughter, Trystan Nikkole Gordon; eight brothers and one sister.
He is survived by two sons, Glen Gordon of Yukon, OK and Greg Gordon of Oklahoma City, OK; three sisters, Marjorie Spady, Loretta Kreger and Sand Nielson; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
