James Marshall “Jim” Stevens, 76, of Leoma, TN, formerly of Perryton, died July 28, 2023 from complications of COPD.
Services were held Wednesday, Aug. 2, at Brook Hill Memorial Gardens in Paducah, KY, with military honors, with Rex Jones officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Neal Funeral Home, Lawrenceburg, TN.
He was born in 1947 in Wichita, KS and grew up in Meadville, PA, graduating from Meadville High School in 1964. He attended Murray State University in Murray, KY, then joined the U.S. Army as a military policeman.
After his honorable discharge, he attended Kentucky State Police School. He left the Kentucky State Police in 1981, and moved to the Texas Panhandle. He retired from the City of Perryton in 2003 and moved to Leoma, TN in 2007. He married Cathy Shaw in 1990 in Claude. He was also a football official in the Texas Panhandle, and coached Kids Inc. football and soccer, and minor league baseball while living in Paducah.
He was the owner of Rawhide Mallet Leathercrafts since 1990. He was a member of American Legion Post 146.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marshall Earl and Marjorie Ocker Stevens.
He is survived by his wife, Cathy, of the home; two sons, Trison Stevens of Columbia, TN and Lance Stevens of Paducah, KY; one daughter, Jennifer Pickard of Lawton, OK; one sister, Carol Leigh Stevens; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The family suggests memorials to the American Lung Association.
