Rites held for Bishop

Donald Lamar Bishop, 85, of Perryton, died Wednesday, July 17, 2024 in Perryton. A memorial service was held July 24 at Victory Family Church with Rev. Marlon Sparks officiating. Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Perryton.

He was born Nov. 13, 1938 in Marlow, OK to Lamar Bishop and Ayline Reed Bishop. He graduated high school and married Darless LaTrell Locke on Sept. 5, 1959 in Dumas.

He worked in the oil business, as well as for the YMCA as a boys coach. He also worked for the Perryton Herald and Janet K’s Hallmark during his life. He was a member of “Three Preachers and a Bishop” quartet.

He served on the library board as president, and was a member of Jennie Junes serving as president, among other offices. He was an active member of the Jaycees, and served as president of the Jaycees and named outstanding Jaycee-Ette for Texas. He was also a 32nd degree Mason and Past Worshipful Master. He was also named Outstanding Young Citizen of Perryton and served as the president and fund drive chairman for United Way.

He is survived by his wife, Darless, of the home; his son, Danny Bishop; his sister, Linda Kay Hibbs, brother, Jerry Bishop, two grandsons, and two greatgrandsons.

The family suggests memorials to one’s favorite local charity.
