Marie Eleanor Partridge Brasher was born on Jan. 28, 1921 to Arthur W. and Magdalene “Lena” (Salzman) Partridge in Gray, (Beaver County) OK. She departed this life on Aug. 7, 2022 at the age of 101 years, 6 months and 10 days old.
She attended Blue Mound School through the eighth grade and then attended Perryton High School graduating in 1940.
Growing up, Eleanor enjoyed riding her horse, Bell, spending time with her best friend Opal Sager, growing things in her garden, spending time with her brothers, sister, cousins and other family and friends, playing games and participating in outside activities.
She married Austin Brasher in Newton, KS in 1947 and adopted Jimmie Brasher, her first born. This was followed by another son and two daughters. They moved to Hugoton in 1960, where she and her husband ran the Jet Drive-In until 1965 when Eleanor went to work for Broaddus Chevrolet where she worked until she and the two girls moved to the OK/ KS state line.
She was a very good league bowler and would go to state tournament competitions. Eleanor and her teammates went to the motel and she sat on a cot in the room and it folded up on her. Her teammates were laughing so hard that they couldn’t help get her out for a while. They all had such a good time and had so much fun.
She was also very busy being a good Mom to her four children, planting and tending a garden, harvesting the crops, canning, baking and making jams, jellies and preserves.
After moving to the OK/ KS state line she worked at Rose Pontiac Chevrolet until she retired in the early 90s. Even in retirement, she continued to have a garden, both vegetable and flower. Eleanor looked forward to the class reunions for Blue Mound, Bethany, Anthony and Balko combined and continued to go to these until she was about 96 years old.
She decorated the graves of loved ones all over Beaver County for years. Going with her to do this was a great way to learn about
family heritage and hear family stories.
She wasn’t an avid church goer but she was a God fearing woman, reading her Bible daily and demonstrated this through the way she lived. Eleanor was kind, gave good advice and was forgiving. Her family will remember her as one of the strongest and most courageous women.
Eleanor was survived by her crazy black cat that she named lovingly named Blondie; one son, Floyd Brasher of Sawyer, KS; two daughters: Yvonne Peyton of Wellington, KS; Susan Brasher Smith and her husband Mike of Burden, KS and his son Brandon Smith and his wife Kim of Burden, KS; grandkids and great grandkids as follows: Jimmie’s: Dana Mattingly and her husband Scott of Mount Vernon, IL; great grands, Abby and Elizabeth (Eleanor affectionately called Elizabeth, Lizzy) Jimmy Brasher, Jr and his wife Eileen of Montgomery; great grands, Aaron and Emily; Floyd’s: Darrell Brasher of Cheney, KS; Joseph Brasher and his wife Heather of Wallkill, NY; Yvonne’s: Teri Breese and her husband LeRoy of South Haven, KS; great grands, Tyce Breese and his wife Jessica of Bramen, OK; Trenton Breese and his wife Brooklyn of South Haven, KS; Roni Edwards and her husband Doug of Clearwater, KS; great grands, Kait-lyn Edwards and Kale Edwards also of Clear-water, KS; Randy Peyton and his wife Tina of Grafton, OH; great grands, Devin Peyton of Norman, OK; Jacob Peyton of Oklahoma City, OK; Niki Sherman and her husband Grant of MS; Maci Shoemaker and Orlando Martinez of OK; and great great grand, Benson Mar-tinez and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
