Jan taught ninth grade English for nearly 36 years at Perryton High School and later at the Top of Texas Accelerated Education Center. Jan spent many years serving as a cheerleading sponsor and junior class sponsor, which included the duties of operating the basketball concession stand and planning the junior and senior prom.
Through teaching, she made many great friends and developed lifelong relationships with countless students. After retirement, Jan and Jim moved to Broken Arrow and Wagoner, OK, where she continued to teach as a substitute teacher.
Jan always loved cooking and entertaining for family and friends. Her recipes have been shared and enjoyed across the country through her cookbook, Toast and Hot Tea. In addition, one of her favorite things to do was shop – at home or in any destination she visited. Many people can attest to the joy they experienced while shopping with Jan.
She was accomplished at oil painting and China painting. Several of her China pieces were awarded blue ribbons at the Tulsa County Fair. Above all, Jan’s greatest love came from spending time with her family, especially her grandsons.
