City’s sales tax payment takes a hit this month

The City of Perryton saw its sales tax allocation for May drop from last May.The city received $275,408 for the month, down 8.6% from May 2025. For the year so far, its $1.247 million in payments are down a little over 2%.Amarillo received a payment of $11.2 million, up 13% from last May.
High school athletes were honored at the Perryton High School All Sports Awards Banquet on Monday evening. Students in every sport were recognized and honored by their coaches, with a number of awards presented. Among the top honorees were from left, the school’s Best All Around Athletes, Jaxten Castanon and Mallee Vela, and PHS’s Best Student Athletes, Aliyah Hernandez and Samuel DeSantiago.

No new H-1b visas for universities, agencies

Gov. Greg Abbott has ordered universities and state agencies to stop asking for new H-1B visas until next year., the Houston Chronicle reported. The visas are used to hire foreign workers who possess skills in a specialized field. The visas typically last for three years.

Jennie Junes enjoys program on plants

The Jennie June Club met Wednesday, April 8 at Perry Memorial Library.The program was given by Sharla Kile on Ranger Roots, 110 E. Santa Fe. She said they are opening a new spot on Main Street, but it won’t be ready for a while. It is open 9:30-5:30 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.
