Area businesses, offices set Christmas holiday hours

Christmas is upon us, and many businesses, organizations, and governmental offices are planning their days off for the holiday season.Perryton Independent School District and Frank Phillips College, Allen Campus are both closed for their holiday breaks. PISD will open for staff on Jan.
Many Perryton and Ochiltree County residents decorated their homes, both inside and out, for the Christmas season this year. Bright lights on houses and trees, inflatable snowmen, illuminated nativity scenes and more showed up in yards all over town. Among the brightly decorated houses was the home of Juan Barrales at 410 SW 5th.

The candidates for the position of Ochiltree County Judge met on Thursday morning at the Ochiltree County Courthouse to draw for ballot position for the election. Wayne Floyd will be in first position on the ballot, followed by Brenda Austin.

Herald to Print Early Next Week

The Herald will have early deadlines for The Thursday, Jan. 1 issue due to moved up printing schedules. The Thursday, Dec. 25 paper will be printed on Tuesday, Dec. 23, and delivered later that day. The Thursday, Jan. 1, paper will be printed on Tuesday, Dec. 30, and delivered on Wednesday, Dec. 31.

Black bear population is on the rise in West Texas area

Sightings of black bears in West Texas have jumped from nearly 80 in 2020 to at least 130 this year, the Texas Standard reported.That has caused some challenges and concern as bears visit neighborhoods in search of food and pose a threat to livestock and pets.

Blood drives set at FPC and OGHCoffee Memorial Blood Center will hold community blood drives in Perryton in early January. The first will be on Tuesday, Jan. 6, from 1-6 p.m. at Frank Phillips College, Allen Campus. The second will be on Wednesday, Jan. 7, from 2:30-6 p.m.
