Tennis opens season

The Ranger and Rangerette tennis teams hit the courts in Borger on Saturday to open the season. The weather was uncharacteristically mild and made the tournament enjoyable. PHS tennis coach Toby Brown said, “It was a beautiful January day to get our season started.

Bulldogs corner the Rangers

The Borger Bulldogs came to town on Tuesday night to face the Ranger basketball team. It was the first meeting of the two teams on the season. The squads looked to match up well on paper heading into the game. Perryton struggled in the first and fourth quarters on Tuesday.

Rettes remain in the playoff hunt

The Rangerette basketball team continues to improve and appear to be peaking at a very good time. They hosted Borger on Tuesday night hoping to avenge a loss to the Lady Bulldogs earlier in the season. Borger won that game by the final score of 53-46. That was not the case on Tuesday.

PHS powerlifters compete in Dalhart

The Ranger and Rangerette powerlifting teams made the trip to the Dalhart Invitational Meet on Saturday. The Rangers lifted their way to the win while the Rangerettes finished in second place. Coach Casey Arruda commented, “We traveled to Dalhart this weekend to compete in their invitational.

Hereford Whitefaces stampede Rangers

The Hereford Whiteface basketball team traveled to Perryton to challenge the Rangers on Friday night. The Whitefaces controlled the game from the opening tip with strong post play and scoring from several different athletes.

Rettes halter the Lady Whitefaces

The Rangerette basketball team hit the floor running on Friday night and never looked back. Perryton jumped out to an early lead and defeated the Hereford Lady Whitefaces going away by the final score of 55-43. Perryton’s Erin Merkel and Tonya Navarrete both scored in double figures.

Late Dumas rally sinks Rangers

Despite two Rangers scoring more than 20 points, the Demons surged in the fourth quarter to defeat Perryton on Tuesday in Dumas. Three Rangers scored in double figures, despite being defeated by the final score of 74-69.

Demonettes cage Rettes

Defensive pressure and transition buckets propelled the Dumas Demonettes to a victory over the Rangerettes on Tuesday in Dumas. A late run by Perryton in the fourth quarter wasn’t enough as Dumas won by the final score of 69-48.

Powerlifters compete in triangular meet

The PHS powerlifting teams are hard at work in the early season to develop a strong base to build upon. No program in the state of Texas has been as dominant as the Ranger and Rangerette lifters over the past few years. The teams and Coach Casey Arruda have created a dynasty.

West Texas A&M to recognize Perryton native Mickey Piersall

Mickey Piersall, who graduated from Perryton High School in 1969, has been recognized by West Texas A&M University. Piersall has been named to his alma mater’s Athletic Hall of Champions. Peirsall is one of seven members in the 2021 class of inductees.
