PHS Cross Country

Despite the hot weather and tough conditions, the PHS cross country teams have been hard at work. This year’s squads are under the direction of Coach Griffin Brosowske. Both teams started their season with the Canyon Relays on Aug. 27. The relay style race is unique in the cross-country calendar.

Three Perryton High School powerlifters captured world championships at the International Powerlifting Federation’s World Championships in Istanbul, Turkey. Bringing home the gold were, from left, Saleen Nyman, Christian Laja and Alejandra Salas.

Canyon Eagles top Rangers, 48-27

The Rangers lost 48-27 to Canyon Friday night in Perryton. Canyon was on offense first, and began a 75 yard scoring drive, that ended with a 20 yard pass completion from Derek Clements to Elijah Smothermon. The extra point was no good, but the Eagles led 6-0.

Rangers win big, 48-20

The Rangers kicked off their 2022 season with a big 48-20 win over Dalhart on the road last Friday. Dalhart was up first with the ball, going nowhere. They were forced to punt. Perryton took over at their own 47 yard line. A nice 18 yard run by Isaias Dominguez put the Rangers at the Dalhart 35.

PJH CHERLEADERS ATTEND CAMP—The Perryton Junior High cheerleaders attended camp at the University of Oklahoma July 11-14. They came home with a trophy for top team Chant, an award for Excellence in Spirit, and superior ribbons for band chant and team cheer.

Kids participating in the Perryton Activity Center’s Youth Football program visited the PAC on Tuesday evening to get outfitted with pads, helmets, and other equipment. The first game of the season is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 10.

The deadline for the Perryton Activity Center’s footbal league sign ups ended Friday, so lots of parents visited the PAC to get their kids signed up before it was too late. There is still time to sign up for volleyball and soccer as the deadline for both is July 29.
