State records most tornadoes during 2024

Preliminary data from the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center indicates the United States experienced a record 1,855 tornadoes in 2024, breaking a 20-year-old record. Texas led the nation with 169 tornadoes last year, more than doubling the 2023 total of 78.

Four Texas counties among fastest growing in United States

Census figures released last week show that Kaufman County, east of Dallas, was the fastestgrowing county in the state and second-fastest growing in the country,The Texas Tribunereported. The number of people living in that county grew by more than 50,000 residents from 2020 to 2024.
Members of Leadership Perryton XXIII participated in Reality Day, a poverty simulation, last Wednesday, learning about some of the realities and challenges faced by low-income families. Participants in the simulation were given simple roles to play during the project, including newly unemployed people, homeless people, recipients of TANF funds, senior citizens on disability, and single parents. The task assigned to all was to provide basic necessities and shelter during the course of four 15-minute weeks.
