Brent Thurman was appointed as Ochiltree County’s new commissioner for Precinct 2 on Friday morning. Thurman will fill the unexpired term left when former commissioner Joe Johnson died in July — that term expires on Dec. 31, 2026. Thurman is a farmer and the retired superintendent at Mewbourne Oil.

The City of Perryton sponsored a pet adoption event on Saturday at Whigham Park. Dog lovers got to meet a dozen different dogs, with a number of animals getting to go home with new families.

Deadline nearing to apply for flood damage aid

Property owners, businesses, renters and others affected by the July Hill Country floods have until Sept. 4 to apply for aid from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, according to the Express-News.Heavy rains triggered flooding along the Guadalupe River, killing at least 119 people.

Texas Drawn Hunt Program is now open

Hunters now have new opportunities and scenery to experience this fall through Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s (TPWD) drawn hunt permits program.Through this program, hunters are issued permits for drawn hunts on both public and private lands throughout Texas.
