The Ochiltree County Commissioners held a special meeting on Monday to swear in Eric Kerl as the county’s new Justice of the Peace. The previous Justice of the Peace, Bucky Goldsberry, died in March. Since he ran unopposed in the recent primary election, the county and the Republican County Executive Committee appointed Kerl to fill the position through at least Dec. 31 of this year. The Museum of the Plains recognized Dempsey Malaney as the museum’s Patron of the Year on Tuesday evening. Malaney, who has previously served as a county commissioner and is currently the county’s Veterans Service Officer, has led the museum’s security committee, assisted with facility maintenance, and helps in the museum gift shop in his spare time. The seminar was sponsored by Panhandle First Bank and Red’s Pharmacy.
