Secretary of State Hughs to step down

Texas Secretary of State Ruth Ruggero Hughs will step down at the end of May, sheannouncedlast week. Hughs was appointed by Abbott in August 2019. However, the Texas Senate never formally confirmed her nomination.

Minimal damage was sustained as a result of the severe storm system that moved through Ochiltree County on Wednesday, with some residents receiving torrential rainfall and pea-to golf ball sized hail and property damage from a very weak tornado.

PISD board hires six staff members

The Perryton School Board met in a special session last Tuesday at noon, hiring several more personnel for the 2021-22 school year. Sandi Wheeler was hired as the new Perryton Junior High principal, replacing Tiffany Bietz, who resigned. She has been principal at Spearman High School.

City now taking applications for h-m tax funding

The City of Perryton is now taking applications from organizations seeking to apply for hotel-motel occupancy tax funds. Applications are available at City Hall. The application will cover events or projects happening between Oct. 1, 2021 through Sept. 30, 2022.
