Fresh off a big 35-19 bidistrict win over Midland Greenwood, the Perryton Rangers will face a formidable opponent this Friday in the area round.
The Rangers will play Celina in Iowa Park on Friday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
With the travel distance, PISD schools will have early release for all schools. They include Perryton High School,, 1:45 p.m.; Wright Elementary, Williams Intermediate and Ludi Martin AEC, 2 p.m.; and Perryton Junior High and Perryton Kinder, 2:15 p.m.
The Rangers are the only team still standing in District 2-4A-DII after the bidistrict round. Estacado fell to Monahans, 31-28. Borger was easily handled by Sweetwater, 50-15 and Seminole was shut out by Snyder, 37-0.
The Celina Bobcats have an impressive 9-1 record, 4-0 in district (4-4ADII), and are ranked no. 2 in the state, behind Carthage, in 4A, DII.
The Bobcats blew through their district schedule, trouncing Aubrey, 49-14; Krum, 70-7; Van Alstyne, 41-12; and Sanger, 70-0.
In non-district action, their only loss, 23-0, was to Argyle, currently ranked no. 1 in the state in 4A, DI.
They handily beat their other opponents, Nike Dallas FC, 51-14; Pewitt, 42-6; Paris, 35-17; and Melissa, 34-13.
This will only be the fourth meeting between the Bobcats and the Rangers, with Celina ahead in the series 3-0.
They played non-district games in 2012 and 2013 in Yukon, OK. Celina easily won the first contest, 59-0, but won a much closer one, 28-22 the next year. The third meeting was in 2015, in the regional round of the playoffs, with Celina taking a decisive 46-0 victory.
