Chamber sets cookoff, cornhole tourney

The Perryton-Ochiltree Chamber of Commerce will hold a chili cookoff and a cornhole tournament on Saturday, Oct. 8. The chili cookoof will be from 11:30 a.m-1 p.m. at the Expo Center. Categories are Hot and Spicy and Homestyle; chili must be homemade. There is a limit of 20 entries for the contest and a $25 donation to the Chamber is required. The deadline to sign up is Wednesday, Oct. 5. The cornhole tournament will begin with check-in at 9 a.m. at the Expo Center, with the tournament starting at 9:30 a.m. Divisions are Co-Ed, Open Division, and Crazy 80s (age of team members must add up to 80 years or more). Jennie June Club sets book sale

The Jennie June Club will hold a book sale at the Perry Memorial Library beginning on Monday, Oct. 3, at noon and running through the rest of October. Paperbacks will be sold for 50 cents and hardbacks for one dollar.

Museum to host book signing for Skaggs

Dr. Randy Skaggs, DVM will be at the Museum of the Plains on Saturday, Sept. 17, from 1-3 p.m. for a book signng of his new memoir, “Country Vet: Thirty Years of Treating Animals and Trying to Understand their Owners.”

Snack Pak 4 Kids to meet Sept. 26

Snack Pak 4 Kids will meet Monday, Sept. 26, at 7 p.m. at the Williams Cafeteria to pack snack bags. Parking is available in the back of the school next to the Administration Building. Masks are optional, and hand sanitizer will be provided. Donations can be sent to P.O. Box 340, Perryton, TX 79070.

Pathways enrollment underway

The Pathways Scholarship Program is accepting signed student pledge contracts for 2022-23 until Friday, Sept. 30. Pathways is open to all Perryton High School freshmen, and eligible sophomores, juniors, and seniors. As a branch of the Ranger Academic Enrichment Foundation, Pathways guarantees payment for tuition, fees, and books at Frank Philips College Allen Campus for all qualifying students. Blood drive set at FPC

Coffee Memorial Blood Center will hold a community blood drive on Tuesday, Sept. 27, from 2-6 p.m. at Frank Phillips College, Allen Campus. Photo identification will be required. Donors must be at least 17 years old, but donors who are 16 may donate with a signed parental consent form. Senior Center to host talent show

The Ochiltree County Senior Citizen Center will host “Perryton’s Got Talent,” a talent show, on Sunday, Sept. 25, at 2 p.m. at the Ellis Theatre. Tickets will be $10 or $5 for kids 5 and under, and will be available at the door. To sign up for the show, contact Daryla Allred at 806-435-9909.

Farmers Market open

The Ochiltree County Farmers Market is open every Saturday from 8 a..-1 p.m., in the parking lot at Perryton National Bank. If you would like to be a participant in this year’s market as a vendor, please contact Rene’ Schwalk at 806-202-0049 or message her on Facebook. The market is open to any handmade, homemade, or home grown items. Cost is only $25 for the entire season. The Farmers Market will be open through mid-September.

Church of Christ Clothing House open again

The Church of Christ Clothing House at 822 S. Drake is again open for business. Hours are Tuesdays, 9 a.m. to noon and 6-7 p.m. and Thursdays, 6-7 p.m. Donations are being accepted.

County eligible for emergency grazing

Ochiltree County is also eligible for emergency grazing on CRP acreage. For more information, contact the Ochiltree County Farm Service Agency at 806-4356597, ext. 2.

Crisis Center store sets donation times

Due to limited capacity, the Panhandle Crisis Center Resale Store will accept donations the 1st-15th of every month during regular business hours: Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. They will not accept any donations the 16th through the end of each month. There is a limit of three bags/boxes per donor. Please do not drop off donations if they are not open, including holidays.
