Coats for Kids begins its 22nd year

FirstBank Southwest is kicking off its 22nd year of sponsoring a community project geared toward children during the Christmas holidays.

This year, the bank will again sponsor its “Coats and Shoes for Kids” drive in November and early December. Coats and Shoes for Kids began in the fall of 2001.

Due to worldwide supply chain issues, the bank is currently purchasing coats and shoes for both 2022 and 2023.

The project provides basic warm coats and school shoes for needy children in the Perryton elementary and middle schools.

Donations are being accepted at the bank through the end of the year, though they also accept donations year-round. Coats are purchased by bank employees, and shoes are purchased by school staff, who have identified children without proper outerwear or safe shoes. They will be delivered to the schools before the Thanksgiving holiday.

Last year, private donations to the project provided around 49 coats and 32 pairs of shoes for the children. Nurses report there is always a need for shoes, since students need shoes throughout the school year.

Anyone who would like to help support the Coats and Shoes for Kids project can make a donation, in any amount, at FirstBank teller windows in the lobby or drive-up bank. No school money or taxpayer funds are used in this project.
