Ruby Ann Wahl Gibson, lifetime resident of the Oklahoma Panhandle, passed away on her 94th birthday, April 25, 2025, at Ochiltree General Hospital, Perryton.
Theodore John and Anna Smith Wahl were blessed with their fourth child, Ruby Ann, on April 25, 1931 in Beaver City, Oklahoma. After graduating from Bethany High School in 1948, she attended OBU in Shawnee, Oklahoma for two years where she participated in basketball, softball and field hockey. Ruby returned home to help on the farm and worked at Light Grain Milling Company in Liberal, Kansas. On April, 14, 1952, she married the love of her life, Vernon O. Gibson, and together they began farming and ranching near Hardesty to support a family that would grow to include four children, six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Vernon and Ruby took interest in and supported their children and grandchildren in many activities and competitions. Ruby was an avid basketball fan, from little dribblers through OKC Thunder.
She also enjoyed being a part of the community; whether it be education, elections, gatherings, Hardesty Homemakers, Hardesty Sr. Citizens, or Bethel Baptist Church. She was a counselor for the first camp at Gibson Baptist Assembly.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; husband Vernon; grandson Matt McCormick; and son-in-law Tim Carney.
She is survived by daugh-ters Linda Calhoon and husband Bob of Kellyville, Susan Carney of Hardesty, and Treva Braun and husband Mike of Choctaw; son Virgil Gibson of Hardesty; grandchildren Jeremy Carney and husband Joe Eiben, Josh Carney, Andrea Dickens and husband Jon, Thad McCormick and wife Andrya, and Chuck Mc-Cormick; and greatgrandchildren Bailey and Logan Dickens, Maddox, Abigail, Caitlynn, Tytan, Tobyn and Chazaya Mc-Cormick. Surviving family also include sisters-in-law, Bonnie Miller and Darlene Breen. Sharing our loss are many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services were conducted in the Tabernacle at Camp Gibson on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at 2 p.m. with Jaydan Roseboro officiating. Graveside Services followed at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.
