Cowan rites held

Tracey Sue Schroeder Cowan, 64, of Perryton, died Jan. 6, 2026 in Spearman.

A private family graveside service was held at Ochiltree Cemetery. A memorial service was held Saturday, Jan. 10, at Key Heights Baptist Church with Duce Cooper and Keith Harris officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home in Perryton.

She was born March 17, 1961 in Perryton, and grew up in Balko, OK. She graduated from Balko High School in 1979. She married Bruce Cowan on Aug. 1, 1981.

She graduated from Southwestern Oklahoma State University with a bachelor of education degree, and teaching certificates in elementary education and special education. She taught for a year in Alfalfa, OK, then moved to Perryton and taught in the Perryton Independent School District, retiring after 38 years.

She was a member of the Perryton Retired Teachers Association and the Perryton Rodeo Association, and was a Pathways volunteer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Myron “Mott” and Betty Lou (Henry) Schroeder.

She is survived by her husband, Bruce; one son, Tobby Cowan; four brothers, Tim Schroeder, Shawn Schroeder and Mitch Schroeder, all of Perryton, and Don Schroeder of Spearman; and one sister, Thlise McDonald of Aztec, NM.

The family suggests memorials to Hansford County Hospice or the Pathways Scholarship Fund.
