Bird flu cases increase in Texas Panhandle

Recent testing has detected Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) in mammal species including foxes, raccoons, striped skunks and domestic cats collected in Deaf Smith, Hansford, Lubbock, Ochiltree, Parmer and Randall Counties.

Measles cases surpass 500; outbreak could last for months

The number of measles cases in West Texas and the Panhandle has surpassed 500, the Texas Department of State Health Services reported. Health experts say the outbreak likely will continue to grow and could last for months.Measles was declared eliminated in the U.S. in 2000, The News reported.

County receives light rain, snow

Ochiltree County received some light rain last Friday and even a dusting of snow on Saturday.KEYE Radio’s official rainfall total was .55 of an inch.Elsewhere around the county, Mary Dudley, in the central part of Perryton, reported .65 of an inch of rain.

Stone Age Fair set May 3

The annual Perryton Stone Age Fair is scheduled for Saturday, May 3.The fair will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Ochiltree County Expo Center.

Tracy Stock of Charlotte, NC was the latest speaker in the Leadership Perryton series. She spoke on “Resilience: Courageously Adapt and Build Back” at Frank Phillips College, Allen Campus last Thursday evening. The seminar was sponsored by Interstate Bank.
