The 50-star American flag was designed by a high school student named Robert G. Heft in 1958. He designed the flag as a school project and received a grade of Bminus. Heft later sent the design to his congressman, and when it was chosen as the new national flag, his teacher raised his grade to an A.

Ochiltree County’s summer crops are enjoying an excellent growing season this year.According to Ochiltree County Extension Agent Scott Strawn, this year has been, so far, very good for agriculture in the county.

Rabies case is found in Perryton

The first positive case in a while was reported late last week by Dr. Randy Skaggs.The skunk was found roaming at 117 S. Indiana during the day.“This is our first case in a few years. Sporadic cases have been reported around the Panhandle this year,” Dr. Skaggs said.

Late-night storms bring moisture

A pair of late-night rainstorms last Thursday and Friday dropped more welcome precipitation on Ochiltree County.Mary Dudley, in the central part of Perryton, reported 2.70 inches of rain.Randy and Cami Skaggs, who live a mile southeast of Perryton, received 2.40 inches of rain.
