Perryton musicians have begun rehearsing for this year’s performance of Handel’s Messiah, led by director Keith Harris. This year’s production will include chorus members, soloists, and orchestra members from Amarillo, as well as performers from Perryton and Ochiltree County.

TxDOT says more public transit needed

A draft report from the Texas Department of Transportation says the state needs to boost public transportation in rural and smaller urban areas and add rail between the state’s major urban areas if Texas is going to continue to grow, the Texas Standard reported.

Texas has set a record high by exceeding 3 million registered businesses, Abbott announced.“This milestone shows the true strength of the Texas economy. Texas is the land of freedom and opportunity where businesses and workers can chart their own path to succeed and thrive,” he said.

United Way drive tops 37% this week

The Ochiltree United Way’s 2026 fund drive continued to garner more donations last week.The drive has now raised $33,523, which is 37% of its $98,000 goal.Two more 100% Companies joined the list, meaning every employee contributed to United Way, Alpar and FirstBank Southwest.

Museum to celebrate 50th years

Ochiltree County’s Museum of the Plains is celebrating its 50th anniversary this month.The museum will host a reception celebrating the anniversary on Sunday, Nov. 16, from 1-3 p.m. Visitors will be able to see a small special exhibit of photos and artifacts related to the museum’s history.
