Black bear population on the rise in West Texas

Sightings of black bears in West Texas have jumped from nearly 80 in 2020 to at least 130 this year, the Texas Standard reported. That has caused some challenges and concern as bears visit neighborhoods in search of food and pose a threat to livestock and pets.

Local businesses set New Year’s holiday closings

The end of 2025 is upon us, and many Perryton businesses, organizations, and governmental offices will be closed to let their employees celebrate the New Year’s holiday.Perryton Independent School District and Frank Phillips College, Allen Campus are both closed for their holiday breaks.

The existing flagpole was a few decades old and had suffered significant degradation over the past few years. Phil Dollar Oilfield donated both the flagpole and the labor to set it up at the cemetery.

Filing opens Jan. 14 for city, school, hospital candidates

Filing will open in two weeks for candidates seeking positions in three different elections.Candidate filing begins Wednesday, Jan. 14 for positions up for election on the Perryton City Council, Perryton ISD Board of Trustees and the Ochiltree County Hospital District.

Rifle and Pistol Club sets monthly meeting The Perryton Rifle and Pistol Club will hold their monthly meeting on Thursday, Jan. 15, at 7 p.m. at the indoor range south of the Ochiltree County Expo Building. The club will be discussing new and ongoing projects, as well as electing new officers.
