Rangers to hit the Road Friday

After taking a week off, the Perryton Rangers will be back in the hunt for a playoff spot when they ride to River Road Friday at Wildcat Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. While Perryton was idle last weekend, the rest of District 1-3A was mixing it up. The Dalhart Golden Wolves had to score three touchdowns in final period to win, 28-14, over the Borger Bulldogs. The win leaves Dalhart undefeated, 2-0, in district play and ups their season mark to 7-1. The loss drops Borger to1-6 on the season, and in district, 0-1.

Lady Cats defeat ‘Rettes

The Perryton Rangerettes hosted the River Road Lady Wildcats in volleyball action Tuesday night. This was the second time these teams have squared off in district play. The Lady Cats swept the district season series from the ‘Rettes by winning the match. The game scores were 25-19, 25-12 and 25-12. This contest was a must win situation for the ‘Rettes. The loss mathematically eliminates Perryton from post season play. The Rangerettes played well in the first game before a late game rally by the Lady Cats propelled them to victory.

FOOTBALL WORKOUT

Morgan Swank, Molly McGaughy and Emmali Mariscal practiced throwing the football while Raul Jaquez, Jacob Najera Hernandez and Marshall Attaway waited their turn. Beautiful weather made for fun times outside for physical education.

Rangerettes fall to Lady Harvesters

The 2013 Rangerette volleyball team continued district play with a trip to Pampa on Tuesday. Perryton fell to the Lady Harvesters in 4 games by the scores of 21-25, 20-25, 25-19, 22-25. The Rangerettes had the opportunity to win every game in the match but had difficulties controlling the strong offense of the Lady Harvesters.

Rangers pop Pampa, 44-6

What a way to open District 1-3A play. The Perryton Rangers manhandled the Pampa Harvesters, 44-6, to grab the district opener. The Rangers won on both sides of the ball. They rolled up 405 yards total offense while holding the Harvesters to less than 100 yards in the game (82 yards). The most impressive defensive statistic is that Perryton limited Pampa to less than one yard per carry rushing.

PHS Cross Country Results

The Perryton High School varsity cross country teams traveled to Round Rock for the McNeil Invitational last weekend. The varsity boys placed 14th as a team out of 49 teams participating in the 3A-2A-1A division. There were also 406 runners. Jorge Anchondo was 53rd with a time of 18:27.49. Alex Bond placed 56th with a time of 18:30.59. Coming in 59th was Francisco Borunda with a time of 18:32.53.

PJH Seventh Grade White Team Football

The seventh grade white football team played a hardfought battle against Bushland Oct. 3, coming up short 20-14. At halftime, Bushland led 20-6. Perryton’s score came after Matthew Cano recovered a Bushland fumble, then Rodrygo Monreal carried the ball in for the touchdown. The point after try failed.

Rangers level Lubbock High Westerners, 49-19

You can say that the Perryton Rangers have come of age. Last week they fought the Celina Bobcats, the 7th ranked 3A team in the state, and came away with a six-point loss, 28-22. This week the Rangers put their first mark in the win column with 49-19 pounding of the Lubbock High Westerners at Lowery Field. In that game Perryton rolled up 542 yards and seven touchdowns. The Westerners were held to 262 total yards, two touchdowns and the Ranger defense caused five Lubbock turnovers.
