The Rangers ran into another prolific offense and stout defense Friday night at Ranger Field. The Pampa Harvesters took control of the game, and took a decisive 40-14 win.

The Rangers were handicapped by several personal foul penalties and an inability to move the ball or stop the Pampa offense through most of the game.

The Harvesters took the ball first, and went 75 yards in six plays, helped by a 57 yard completion from Tucker Bridwell to Joey Hill, to score first. Kaleb Caldwell carried the ball in from the 1 yard line, the extra point was good and Pampa led 7-0 with 9:16 still left in the first quarter.

Rangerettes play several matches

Rangerette Volleyball

The Rangerette volleyball team continued their busy pre-district schedule in preparation for the district season. Perryton played several games in a short period in order to obtain the needed live game experience as they head into one of the most powerful districts in the state.

The Rangerettes opened play last week at home on Tuesday against the Childress Lady Bobcats. Childress had defeated the Rettes earlier in the season and Perryton looked to use the home court advantage to pull out a victory.

Despite being in a smaller UIL classification, the Lady Bobcats are a formidable opponent for the Rangerettes. They have size and speed at the net which generates a great deal of offense for them. Childress used those attributes again to defeat the Rettes in three games by the scores of 25-22, 25-16 and 25-10.

Rangerettes serve up new season

Rangerette Volleyball

The Rangerette volleyball team has been hitting the hardwood and volleyballs hard since the beginning of the month to prepare for a new season with a new look. Perryton heads into the season under the direction of a new head coach. Coach Jamie Watts takes the reins of the Rangerette program.

Coach Watts graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2013. Her experience is impressive as she has been coaching club and select volleyball teams for the last 10 years.

“I just moved from Dallas where I worked at a Christian preparatory academy for four years. I served as head of the volleyball program and as a varsity coach there,” she commented.

Coach Watts teaches physical education and health as well as health science. She moved to Perryton with her feline friend named Chief Atlas and looks forward to becoming involved in the community.
