Rettes battle against the Lady Harvesters

The Rangerette volleyball team continues to battle in district play. They traveled to a tough volleyball venue in the Clifton McNeilly Fieldhouse in Pampa on Saturday. The Rettes faced the district leading Pampa Lady Harvesters for the second time this season. Pampa won the first match in Perryton easily in three games by the scores of 25-11, 25-12 and 25-17.

Pampa has a very strong back row defense that smothers the floor. In addition, their front row hitters are very athletic and powerful. Add in an effective service rotation with a young, aggressive coach and the Lady Harvesters are formidable.

The Rangerettes played very aggressively on Saturday and improved on their first outing. They blocked well at the net and defended the power kill attempts much better in this match. Despite losing in three games by the score of 25-19, 25-15 and 25-15, they were in each game until late.

The Rangerette volleyball team opened district play on the road on Saturday. They faced a tough task in the Dumas Demonettes. Dumas is the favorite to win the district championship in preseason polls. They are packed with size, power, speed and outstanding service rotations.

Dumas’ dominance was on display on Saturday. They took the match in rapid fashion. Perryton struggled in fielding the powerful serves from the Demonettes. As a result, it was challenging for them to mount an offensive attack. Defensive struggles with service returns or kill attempts make setting difficult and front row attacks rare. Many of the service returns were free-ball returns, which allowed the power hitting front row from Dumas to have free reign.
