Rangers play well in Miami Tourney

Rangers Basketball

The Perryton Rangers basketball team participated in the first of their three allowed tournaments over the weekend. The team stayed close to home and played several games. The Miami tournament hosted competition from several area teams.

Perryton opened play on Thursday against a tough Clarendon Broncos team. The Rangers jumped out to an early lead, but the Broncos responded in the second and third quarters to take a commanding lead. After a tough third quarter, in which they could only convert on one two-point bucket, the Rangers made a run in the final stanza. Despite the run, the Rangers were defeated by the score of 45-31.

Pablo Perez led the Rangers with 7 points in the loss. Ryan Davis scored 6 points while Levi Stevens added in 5 points. The Rangers shot 40% from the line in the loss.

Lady Greyhounds run past Rettes

Tuesday night was a difficult outing for the Rangerette basketball team. They were on the road against a very talented Gruver team.

Points were hard to come by and their opponent was on fire from all areas of the court. The Lady Greyhounds controlled the action and won the game by the final score of 81-36.

The home team jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Gruver led by the score of 15-7 at the end of the first quarter. Cassidy Farney continued her steady scoring with 4 points in the first. Tori Rivera added a two-point bucket while Morgan Vela hit a free throw to round out Perryton’s scoring in the period.

Gruver amped up the offense in the second, scoring 23 points. Perryton was limited to 7 points behind Farney’s 4 points. Elektra Rowlan added a bucket inside the arc while Gisselle Hernandez converted a free throw for Perryton’s scoring totals. Gruver cruised, leading 38-14 at the half.

Lady Wildcats defeat Rangerettes

Rangerettes Basketball

The Rangerette basketball team played their last game before the holiday on Tuesday.

The Rettes traveled to play the Canadian Lady Wildcats in a non-district contest. Perryton struggled to score, especially in the first half and were defeated by the final score of 59-40.

Rangerettes pick up tough road win

Rangerettes Basketball

The Rangerette basketball team entered a tough environment and overcame the odds to secure a tough win at River Road on Friday. The Lady Wildcats are a scrappy team with a great deal of fight. The Rettes answered their intensity to pick up the victory by the final score of 49-46.

The score was close throughout the first half. The lead changed hands several times as Perryton led 10-9 at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Wildcats stormed out to a lead at half with their best quarter of the game. They led by the score of 24-21 at the intermission.

The third quarter belonged to the Rangerettes. They jumped out with 18 points to lead 41-36 at the end of the period. Cassidy Farney rained down threepoint baskets in the period, scoring 11 points. Perryton matched each River Road run in the fourth quarter to cruise to the victory.

Lady Deputies JV Basketball

Basketball

The Perryton girls Junior Varsity basketball team made the long trek to Amarillo Friday to take on the Junior Varsity team from River Road.

The Lady Deputies had a strong offensive game and a stingy defense, which only allowed the River Road ladies to score one 3 point bucket in the first quarter, giving Perryton a 17-3 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Deputies scored 14 points in the second quarter and River Road hit two 3 point buckets, giving Perryton a 31-9 lead at the end of the first half of play.

Perryton continued strong in the second half, scoring 32 points while holding River Road to 14 points. Perryton won the game by a score of 63-23.

Rangers open with win

Rangers Basketball

The Ranger basketball team hit the hardwood for the first time this season on Friday at River Road. The Rangers took the floor firing on all cylinders with strong defensive play and diffuse scoring on offense.

Every Ranger on the roster entered the score column to open the season. Perryton cruised to victory by the final score of 56-30 after a strong second quarter.

Levi Stevens led the Rangers with 3 points in the first quarter. He got the basket in the paint despite being fouled and added the oneand-one at the line to lead Perryton. Coach Dustin Klafka’s team moved the ball around with Felipe Hernandez, Brayden Klafka, Anthony White and Johan Carrasco all scoring 2 points. Pablo Perez added a free throw as Perryton led by the score of 12-8 at the end of the first quarter.

Rangerettes Basketball

The Rangerette basketball team took advantage of the home court to beat the Spearman Lynxettes on Tuesday. Perryton jumped out with a hot start to take a commanding lead in the first quarter and kept the pressure high to win by the final score of 53-49.

Rangerette Gisselle Hernandez had a season high outing in points and led Perryton offensively. She worked in the paint for 6 points and beyond the arc for 3 points in the first quarter. Cassidy Farney capitalized from all areas of the floor by scoring 2 free throws, a bucket inside the arc and a long three-point shot for 7 points in the period. Elektra Rowlan nailed a long three-point basket while Molly McGaughy drove in the paint and a foul sent her to the line for 2 points in the first. Perryton led by the score of 21-10 as time expired in the opening quarter.

Rangerettes Basketball

The Rangerette basketball team seems to be hitting their stride in the early season. They traveled to White Deer to play the Lady Does on Saturday and came home with a win. Strong defense and consistent offensive production led the Rettes to the victory by the final score of 54-46.

The Rettes shot very well from beyond the arc on Saturday. Cassidy Farney hit two three-point baskets in the first quarter to lead Perryton. Elektra Rowlan scored 2 points in the period. Tori Rivera nailed a long three-point basket at the buzzer to put the Rettes up by the score of 11-10.

Threes continued to rain down for Perryton in the second quarter. Morgyn Vela came alive with two buckets from beyond the arc. Rivera continued her hot shooting going 5 for 5 from the charity stripe and nailing another three-point bucket. Perryton held the 25-20 lead at the intermission.

Lady Deputies JV Basketball

After losing their first two games by a total of three points, the Lady Deputies got on the winning track when they traveled to Borger to play in the Lady Bulldogs JV tournament.

Their first opponent was Dalhart and they won that game by a score of 32-22. Tanya Navarette led all scorers for Perryton with 11 points. Hallie Lingo had 6 points and Paolo Uribe tossed in 5 points. Scoring 2 points each were Emili Rodriguez, Samantha Ramirez, Gio Macias, Mariana Valenzuela and Halley Farney.

The girls JV team from Vega was their second opponent and Perryton won the game 29-19. Scoring for Perryton were Ramirez with 12 points, Navarette 11 points, Farney 3 points, Uribe 2 points and Macias 1 point.

Rangerettes tame the Lady Tigers

The Rangerette basketball team played their first home game of the season on Tuesday. The Rettes hosted the McLean Lady Tigers. It was the Rangerettes’ second game of the early season and the Lady Tigers first game of the season. Perryton looked to avenge a 47-43 road loss to the 1A Lady Tigers from last season.

Both teams came out firing in the first half. Perryton jumped out to an early lead and held off a late McLean rally to win by the final score of 68-52.

Morgyn Vela and Cassidy Farney carried the Rettes offensively in the first quarter. They each knocked down 7 points from inside the arc and free throw line. Tori Rivera continued connecting from beyond the arc for 3 points. Gisselle Hernandez quickly converted over from cross country to score 2 points in the first quarter. Perryton led by the score of 19-17 as the quarter ended.
