Rettes lose in bi-district

The Rangerette basketball team had a tough task Monday night in their first playoff game. Their opposition was a perennial visitor to the state tournament. The Canyon Lady Eagles may be the toughest first round opponent in the state. The Rettes played valiantly, but were no match for the powerful Lady Eagles. Canyon won the game easily 62-20.

The first half was tough for the Rettes as they could only muster 6 points, all in the first quarter. Morgyn Vela scored 4 points while Gisselle Hernandez hit 2 points. Canyon scored 25 points in the first quarter and 13 in the second quarter to lead 38-6 at the half.

The second half was better for the Rettes. They scored 14 points including 8 by Cassidy Farney. Elektra Rowlan and Vela each nailed a three-point shot. While the Lady Eagles seemed to take their foot off the throttle some in the second half, they continued to take and make three point shots in the fourth.

Harvesters beat Rangers

Harvesters beat Rangers

The district leading Pampa Harvesters looked to close out the district season undefeated in Perryton on Tuesday. The Harvesters have dominated the district and defeated the Rangers by the score of 79-40 earlier in the season. That game was in Pampa and the Rangers hoped to return the inhospitality to the visitors in this game.

Despite playing well and hustling on both ends of the floor on Tuesday, the Rangers could not keep up with the Harvesters’ talent, size and depth. Pampa took an early lead and rode that to victory by the final score of 59-39.

Perryton struggled to get shots to fall in the first half. Pampa led 19-5 at the end of the first quarter. Brayden Klafka hit a three-point shot while Ethan Kerl converted a two-point shot for Perryton’s scoring.

Rangers win low scoring game

The Ranger basketball team travelled to Dumas for an important game on Friday night. Perryton looked to pick up a win to help them secure a playoff position. The two teams are evenly matched. Dumas defeated the Rangers in a close game by the score of 36-34 in their first game earlier in the season.

Friday was the tale of two halves. The teams were almost matched point for point in the opening half. The Rangers took over in the second half to pick up the important win. At the end of a defensive struggle on Friday, the Rangers pulled out the victory by the final score of 32-17.

Dumas jumped out to an early lead by the score of 8-5 at the end of the first quarter. Braden Klafka kept the Rangers close with a threepoint basket. Ryan Davis connected on two free throws in the period for Perryton. Both teams struggled to score throughout the contest.

Rettes finish fourth

The Rangerette basketball team played an extra district game for the season on Friday. Perryton and Pampa tied in the standings and needed an extra game to establish playoff spots. The winner of Friday’s game would face a little less difficult team in the first round of the playoffs. The loser of the game would be forced to face the Canyon Lady Eagles in the first round of the playoffs.

Perryton won the first game between the two teams earlier in the season. Pampa dominated the Rettes in the second matchup. Perryton hoped to recapture their magic from the first game on Friday. Pampa has been on a roll recently. The Lady Harvesters came out strong in the first quarter and rode that lead to the victory. Perryton struggled to hit free throws down the stretch and Pampa won the contest by the final score of 43-36.

The Rangerette basketball team traveled to Dalhart to close out the regular season on Wednesday. Perryton won the initial game against the Lady Wolves by the score of 51-42 at Ranger Gym earlier this year. The Rettes needed a win on Wednesday to stay ahead of Pampa in the district playoff rankings. The Lady Wolves needed a win to remain in a tie for first with the Dumas Demonettes.

A win was not to be, as the Rangerettes played flat and struggled to score on Wednesday. Points were impossible to come by for the Rettes as the Lady Wolves outscored Perryton’s game total in the first half. Dalhart cruised to victory by the score of 56-21 to stay in first place

The first and third quarters were disastrous for the Rettes. Dalhart jumped out to a lead by the score of 13-3 at the end of the first quarter. Morgyn Vela led the Rettes with 2 points. Gisselle Hernandez hit a free throw for Perryton.

Rangers Basketball

The Ranger basketball team took a delayed trip to Dalhart to face the Wolves for the second time this season on Wednesday. Weather delayed the game from Tuesday until Wednesday. The Rangers needed a win to lock down a playoff spot. Dalhart won the first game of the season between the teams by the score of 68-64. Wednesday’s game

Wednesday’s game played out a bit differently than the first contest. Dalhart used a home gym advantage and captured the momentum early. They posted the victory easily by the final score of 76-62. Dalhart used an aggressive full court press to unsettle the Rangers.

Ryan Davis, Brayden Klafka and Anthony White each scored 3 points to lead the Rangers in the first quarter. Johan Carrasco scored 2 points while Ethan Kerl connected on a free throw to round out Perryton’s scoring in the period. Dalhart shot well and led by the score of 19-12 at the end of the first quarter.

Rangers win re-match with Borger Bulldogs

Both the Rangers and the Borger Bulldogs desperately needed a victory in their rematch on Friday night in Perryton. The Rangers won the first game by the score of 55-47 but have been on a losing streak since. The Bulldogs hoped to enter the win category in district play with a victory.

The Rangers jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter, which proved to be the difference in the game. Perryton worked hard to contain the Bulldogs in the final three quarters to win by the final score of 52-47.

Rangerettes sweep the Lady Bulldogs

It was the second district basketball contest between the Rangerettes and the Borger Lady Bulldogs on Friday. The Rettes hosted the Lady Bulldogs and looked to continue their dominance over them this season. Perryton won the first game easily in Borger by the score of 67-33.

It would be more of the same on Friday. The Rangerettes overpowered the Lady Bulldogs and won with little oppostition. Solid shooting and aggressive defense allowed the Rettes to win by the final score of 68-32. Perryton had a superior night from the free throw line for their best outing of the season.

PHS tennis opens season

The 2020 Perryton High School tennis season kicked off on Saturday. Unfortunately, the season is targeted for teams in the southern part of the state. This makes the athletes in the Panhandle forced to play in wintry conditions. Perryton opened their season Saturday with a meet in Borger.

Coach Toby Brown loaded his teams and hit the road to open the season. The Borger Invitational Meet hosted seven teams. Teams included Perryton, Borger, Plainview, Brownfield, Palo Duro and Elk City, OK. The contest was shortened slightly by lighting and weather issues.

Second half struggles cost Rangerettes

The Ranger basketball team traveled to Pampa to face the Harvesters for the first time this season on Friday. The Harvesters controlled the game from the opening tip. Offensive output was high for Pampa in the first three quarters as they cruised to a victory by the final score of 79-40.

Pampa jumped out to an early lead of 18-9 in the first quarter. Ryan Davis and Cuyler Feger hit three-point buckets for Perryton. Anthony White scored 2 points while Johan Carrasco rounded out the scoring for Perryton with 1 point.

Perryton only converted one bucket for the floor in the second quarter. Davis hit another three-point shot. Ethan Kerl scored on 3 free throws while Pablo Perez hit 2 free throws for the Rangers. The Harvesters led by the score of 43-17 at the half as they exploded for 25 points in the second quarter.
