Wright Elementary staff held a “We Miss You” parade on Tuesday, March 24. Teachers and staff from Wright and across the district participated in the parade, and dozens of cars drove all through town honking and waving to students who are still out of school due to the COVID-19 restrictions placed by Gov.

CURBSIDE READING SERVICE

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Perry Memorial Library is offering curbside service for patrons who still want to read but don’t want to get out in public too much. Patrons can check the library’s card catalog online at perrytonlibrary. org, or they can call the library at 435-5801 with a list of authors they want to read. The library will be open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. only. Pictured above, library employee Lupita Magallanes brings a short stack of books out to Rhonda Merrick.

Disaster declaration impacts businesses, churches

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s recent declaration of a health disaster in the state due to the COVID-19, or Corona-virus, pandemic has meant significant changes for many businesses and organizations in Perryton and Ochiltree County.

The governor’s declaration prohibits gatherings larger than 10 people, closes bars and gyms, forces restaurants to switch to takeout or delivery, closes schools, and prohibits visitors at nursing homes.

The Kiwanis Club’s annual auction, originally scheduled for this Saturday, has been moved back to Saturday, April 18.

Six Rangers lift their way to state meet

Six Rangers lift their way to state meet

Twenty-two Ranger powerlifters represented Perryton at the regional meet in Sundown last Friday. Five of those lifters qualified for the state meet, one is an alternate to state and two were crowned regional champions.

After the racking of the last barbell, the Rangers were once again named regional champions as a team.

It was the second year in a row for them to obtain that title.

Rangers earn district basketball honors

Rangers earn district basketball honors

Five Perryton Rangers were named to the Class 4-4A All District Basketball Team, and they, along with three others also earned Academic All District honors.

Making the All District first team were Ryan Davis and Brayden Klafka. Tapped for honorable mention were Pablo Perez, Cuyler Feger and Daxton Rigdon.

Davis led the Rangers with an average of 10.9 points per game, and was 64% from the free throw line. Klafka was right behind with a 9.8 points per game average and 62% from the line.

Kiwanis Club to hold annual auction this Saturday at Expo

The Perryton Kiwanis Club will hold its 36th annual auction fund-raiser Saturday, March 21 at the Ochiltree County Expo Center. The auction is the major fund-raising event of the year for the Kiwanis Club.

The sale will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Everyone is welcome to come early and check out the items that will be available for sale.

This year, the auction will include items donated to the club by businesses and individuals and will also include consignment items, including cars, pickups, trucks, trailers, boats, campers, motorcycles, workshop equipment and welders, and much more.

PISD updates public on COVID-19 effects

The Perryton ISD updated parents and the community on Tuesday about its continuing efforts regarding the coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic.

According to a news release from the district, the administrative team is meeting daily, and also having daily conference calls with Education Commissioner Mike Morath and other administrators throughout the Panhandle.

With no confirmed cases of COVID-19 currently in the Panhandle area, the district added most school districts are adopting a “wait and see” approach, preparing for possible cancellation of school next week, and continues to monitor the situation and seek input from local health authorities.
