NEW FLAG POLE FOR FPC

The original flag pole at Frank Phillps College Allen Campus split vertically and was removed before it became a hazard. The new pole was ordered and delivered to AAA Signs of Amarillo, who installed the new pole on Monday, Nov. 11. Installing the pole were Ramon Grinie, at left, and Brett Bynum.

Buschmans participate in Young Leaders Program

Ryan and Amy Buschman of Perryton recently got an inside look at how the Farm Credit System carries out its mission to provide dependable credit to agriculture and rural America. The Buschmans, member-borrowers of Panhandle-Plains Land Bank, were among 32 young agricultural producers selected to attend the 2013 Farm Credit Young Leaders Program.

PHS honors veterans

Perryton High School hosted a program to honor local veterans on Monday, Nov. 11, in the high school auditorium. The Perryton Honor Guard and the Boy Scouts of Troop 256 and the Cub Scouts of Pack 256 posted the colors, the Stars and Stripes, the Texas Flag and the five flags of the branches of the service. PHS principal Lisa Yauck gave a welcome to the veterans and guests. Brooke Dennis gave the invocation and Justin Ventura led the Pledge of Allegiance to the U.S. Flag and the Texas Flag. Hannah DeSantiago sang the National Anthem.

Three PHS choir members make All-Region Choir

Three members of the Perryton High School choir qualified for the District 1-3A All-Region Choir. The auditions were held on Saturday, Nov. 2 at Caprock High School in Amarillo. Miguel Escobar received ninth chair, bass one. Ryan Roberts received ninth chair, tenor two and Cesar Bernal was chosen for 12th chair, tenor two.

Sales tax revenue down 21%

The City of Perryton’s sales tax payment for November dropped for the second month in a row, but it was not unexpected. The city’s check for $387,808 was down a little over 21% from last November. But, the November 2012 payment, $493,287, was the third highest the city has ever received. It was a similar situation in October, with a drop of over 17%. The October 2012 payment was the second highest ever for the city.

United Way 2014 drive reaches 71%

The Ochiltree United Way's 2014 fund drive took another giant leap last week. It has now raised $86.709.29, which is 71% of the $122,000 goal.

PHS program on Nov. 11 to honor veterans

Perryton High School will host a program on Monday, Nov. 11 to honor the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. The program will be held in the high school auditorium at 9:30 a.m. Invitations were sent to the veterans whose names were on the list, but all veterans are welcome to come. Coffee and coffe cake will be served in the cafeteria prior to the program. The breakfast refreshments will be provided by Claudette File and the family and consumer sciences classes.

OLD DOCUMENTS DISPLAYED AT MUSEUM

On Sunday, Nov. 3, Dr. David Baum, director of the Remnant Trust at West Texas A & M University, gave a lecture and displayed a number of old documents at the Museum of the Plains, including the front page of the New York Times from Sept. 2, 1862 with the first public printing of the Emancipation Proclamation. The first week in November, the documents will be available for Perryton High School teachers to use with their classes. WEST SIDE LIGHTS

As B and B Solvent continues the concrete construction work for the Main Street renovation project on the west side of the street, B and G Electric of Pampa, installs the new light poles and fixtures. Up in the bucket, Joel Avarado, at left, and Jeremy Hill attach a light fixture to the new pole, as Roy Bailey at the truck assembles the next light. The renovation will run from Sixth Avenue to 13th Avenue.
