Easter activities are scheduled

The Easter holiday falls on Sunday, April 20, with Good Friday on April 18. This year, Holy Week, the week before Easter Sunday, will be celebrated on Monday and Wednesday, April 14 and 16. The lack of attendance is the reason for the reduced number of meals that week.

PHS golfers advance to regional tourney

The Ranger golf team and one Rangerette will compete in the Region I Golf Tournament after their excellent performances at the District 1-3A tourney. The two-round district tournament was held March 24 and April 7 at Pheasant Trails Golf Course in Dumas.

Motorcycle driver sustains serious injuries following Thursday collision

At 1:26 p.m. on Thursday, April 3, a collision between a pickup truck and a motorcycle sent Bryan Barrow of Perryton to Ochiltree General Hospital with serious injuries. According to Assistant Chief of Police Mike Smith, Barrow was travelling south in the inside lane of Highway 83 on his 2001 Harley Davidson motorcycle.

SUPERIOR RATING AT UIL CONTEST

The Perryton Junior High School boys choir attended the Junior High UIL Choir Contest, held on Thursday, March 27 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Amarillo, receiving a superior rating for concert. They also received an excellent rating for sight reading.

MOTORCYCLE AND PICKUP COLLISION

A collision between a pickup and a motorcycle sent Bryan Barrow to Ochiltree General Hospital with serious injuries. Weldon Jones, driving a grey 2011 Dodge pickup, pulled onto the highway from 28th Avenue and struck the motorcycle broadside. Barrow was thrown 25 feet and the pickup and motorcycle ended up in the driveway of the First National Bank.

City to drill water well test holes

The Perryton City Council began the process for a new city water well and was also presented with a petition for annexation at its meeting Monday evening. The council approved a bid from Hydro Resources to drill seven water well test holes on two different parcels of land

NEW CARPET FOR THE PAC

The Perryton Activity Center renovated the adult dressing rooms at the center with new paint, new lockers and new carpets for the men’s dressing room and the ladies’ dressing room. Pictured is Arturo Lopez installing the new carpet in the men’s dressing room

Storm spotter training held for first responders at City Hall

On Monday, March 31, the City of Perryton hosted a school for weather spotters, taught by Krissy Scotten, warning coordination meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Amarillo. The school was attended by law enforcement personnel from the Police Department and the Sheriff’s Department and other city employees.

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service lists lesser prairie chicken as ‘threatened’

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced March 27 the lesser prairie chicken will be listed as threatened under the  Endangered Species Act (ESA). A final special rule under section 4(d) of the ESA will limit regulatory impacts on landowners and businesses from this listing.
